Band Parent Meeting Follow-up- Action Needed!
Thank you to those of you who attended the Band Parent Meeting last night! It was great getting to meet and speak with so many of our new band parents, and I am excited to get this year underway. If you were unable to attend the Band Parent Meeting, the slides for the meeting can be viewed at bit.ly/pmsbpmeeting26. The Beginner Band slides are the first half; the Advanced Band (Concert/Symphonic) slides are the second half. The meeting was recorded and can be viewed HERE.
Action Items:
1. Read through the Band Handbook
2. Fill out the 2026-2027 Pearson Band Information Form. If you have multiple kids in the Pearson Band, you will need to fill out a separate form for each student. This form is due by Tuesday, August 25th.
3. If your student is using a school-owned instrument (oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, french horn, euphonium, tuba), you will need to pay the School Owned Instrument fee on Online School Fees. This is due by September 5th.
4. Pay the band fee on Cheddar Up. If you have multiple kids in the Pearson Band, you will need to make a separate transaction for each student. Payment is due by September 19th.
Reedy Band Jam (Preview Day) - Wednesday, September 9- Action Required
8th grade students who will be attending Reedy High School next year will attend the "Reedy Band Jam" on Wednesday, September 9th! During this event, our students will have the opportunity to go to Reedy HS and meet with the current members of the band to get a small taste of what they will experience on Friday at the Middle School Band Night and beyond!
That Wednesday, all Reedy-bound 8th grade students will need to go to the band hall for the second half of 1st period. We have a bus set to take 8th grade students from Pearson to Reedy HS at 9:15 AM and will return at 10:45 AM. However, if the weather is nice, we might just walk over since we are so close. We will not be taking instruments. Students should wear their Pearson Band Shirt. This event has been approved by our school admin, and teachers are aware that these students will be missing at this time. All students are responsible for making up any missed work.
All Reedy-bound 8th Grade students must turn in this permission slip in order to go. This form was passed out to all students on the block day. If you have not turned it in already, you can either turn in the hard copy on Wednesday or send a digital copy to Mr. Jenson over the weekend at jensonm@friscoisd.org
This is going to be a great experience for all involved, and we are so excited for our students to get to interact with our former Patriots in the Reedy Band!
Candy Donations Needed!
Parents, we are in need of candy (or "knowledge" as we call it in band) to give out as prizes to students. If convenient, please consider donating any extra candy you might have from birthday parties, gatherings, etc. or picking up a bag of variety mixed candy next time you go to the store.
Thank you!
Supplies for Concert and Symphonic Band Students
Click on the following link for Symphonic and Concert Band class materials for next school year: https://www.pearsonband.com/supplies.
All supplies can be ordered online through Brook Mays, Music & Arts, at any local music store, or even Amazon.
The deadline to have all supplies in class is Monday, August 17th. Students will need to have their “Concert Black” uniform for our Winter Concert on December 8th.
Private Lessons
We highly recommend all students in Symphonic and Concert Band sign up for private lessons, even if you were not enrolled last year. Private lessons are a great way to progress on your instrument with the assistance of a master teacher who plays that same instrument. While tutoring in a core class might only be to catch up or erase deficits in the learning process, private lessons are for everyone. Typically, the top musicians in the band program are ones that are in private lessons!
This is the time to sign up. Our teachers are in high demand and teach across several different campuses and districts. Lesson times are first come first serve, so sign up ASAP. You can sign up by filling out the form HERE.
If you were enrolled in lessons last year, make sure you reach out to your lesson teacher to get on their schedule for this year.
