Chick-fil-a Spirit Night

Mark your calendars! Wednesday October 26 is Pearson Band Spirit Night at the Chick-fil-a on 423 and Stonebrook!

Frisco Band Parent Information Meeting

Parents of 8th graders who are zoned for Frisco High school are invited to attend the Frisco Band Future-Member Parent Information Meeting, Tuesday, October 25th. It will begin at 6:30 pm and should finish close to 7:15, or earlier.

We hope to see you live and in person in the Frisco HS Auditorium (we’d love to meet you!), but you may also tune in via Zoom:

We sincerely hope you’ll join us for our meeting Tuesday, even if you are not yet sure about your student’s continued participation next year. There is no better way to become familiar with our program and make a truly informed decision.

At the meeting, we’ll be going over a great deal of preliminary information, including spring and summer dates, rehearsal and performance schedules, costs of membership, and all the great things your student will get to experience as a member of the band! Immediately afterward, band directors, current high school students, and parent boosters will be available for any individual questions. Our hope is that you come away with answers to the many questions you probably have at this time about membership in the Frisco Band.

UNT Concert Social Event

Next month we will be taking a trip to see the University of North Texas Wind Orchestra and Wind Symphony perform a joint concert in Denton. These are two of the best collegiate bands in the entire country, and we are fortunate to have them available to us in our own backyard! This trip is open to all current members of the Pearson Band. Students must be in good standing with their band fees and passing all classes to attend.

This trip is optional and is not for a grade. The concert is on Thursday, November 17th. Students will need to meet in the band hall at 5:30 for a pizza party. We will then leave for the concert at 6:15 PM. We will leave UNT at 9:45 and will be back at Pearson by 10:15-10:30 for pick up.

As this concert will take place in a nice performance hall, all students need to dress appropriately. Men will need to wear nice dress pants, button down or polo shirt, nice dress shoes. You may wear a suit and tie if you wish, but that is not required. Ladies need to wear a nice dress or skirt (school appropriate length) or dress pants, with a nice shirt and shoes. Heels are not recommended due to walking on campus.

Absolutely no jeans, shorts, athletic shoes, or t-shirts.

The cost for the concert will be $7 which covers the entry ticket, dinner before the concert, and the bus to and from the concert. Tickets can be purchased through the Charms store the same way that the Family Picnic tickets were bought. Instructions can be viewed by clicking HERE. All tickets must be purchased by Thursday, November 10th. We have a limited amount of tickets available for our group, so tickets are first come first serve on Charms. Students may also purchase tickets with a check made out to the Pearson Band Parent Association or with cash (exact change only.)

This event requires students to be absolutely still and silent for a long period of time. Please do not register your student if you feel that this would be difficult for them. Parents will be expected to pick up their student in Denton if they are removed from the concert for whispering or talking.

We are also looking for several chaperones to attend the concert with us. Please sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050845AEAE2FA5FE3-pearson2. Additionally, all interested chaperones will need to fill out the volunteer background check at http://www.friscoisd.org/about/resources-and-information/background-checks.

We are looking forward to a great concert and a great trip! Let me know if you have any questions.

All Region Audition Information

This semester, all Symphonic Band Students and some Concert Band students have been preparing music for the upcoming All-Region auditions.

What is All-Region Band?

Our “Region” is comprised of all the middle schools in Frisco ISD, McKinney ISD, Prosper ISD, and Little Elm ISD. Students who earn a spot in the All-Region Band are the top performing students on their instrument. This is a huge honor that takes a great deal of practice and dedication. Students selected for the All-Region Band will participate in the All-Region Clinic and Concert on November 11-12.

What are the All-Region Auditions?

Students will perform their All-Region music for a panel of judges. The judges will score and rank all the performers they hear and the top players will earn a spot in the All-Region Band. This is a live audition and will take place in a classroom with approximately 15 other students from the schools in our Region. Some instruments (most likely flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, and percussion) are phased, meaning that they will play at the Phase 1 audition and, if their score is high enough to move on, will play again at the Phase 2 audition. Some instruments (most likely oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, tenor saxophone, bari saxophone, euphonium and tuba) are not phased and will only attend the Phase 2 audition. In order to audition, students must be available to attend the All-Region Band Clinic and Concert on November 11-12.

Important Dates

  • Saturday, November 5 - Phase 1 All-Region Auditions at Rock Hill High School (Prosper ISD). Students will be given an individual audition time.

  • Monday, November 7 - Phase 2 All-Region Auditions at Vandeventer Middle School (Frisco ISD). Students will be given an individual audition time.

  • Friday/Saturday, November 11-12 - All-Region Clinic and Concert at McKinney North High School and Scott Johnson Middle School (McKinney ISD).

Students in Symphonic Band are required to attend the All-Region audition. However, it is of the upmost importance to the band directors that every student who attends has a positive experience. Over the next couple of weeks, we will be listening to every student to determine if they are prepared to attend before signing them up for the audition. In the event that you have a schedule conflict with the audition dates and/or the Clinic and Concert dates, please notify Mrs. Black ASAP.
