Symphonic Band All-Region Masterclasses

On Thursday, August 31, we will hold our first All-Region Masterclass for students in Symphonic Band. The purpose of this activity is to help students learn and improve on their All-Region music to prepare them for the audition in November.

Where: Pearson Middle School

Time: 4:30-6:00pm. Students should stay after school in the band hall from 3:45-4:30 to assist us with set up.

This will replace the Symphonic Band scheduled sectional for the week of August 28 - September 1. We will resume our normal schedule the week of September 4-8.

This is a required event. Email Mrs. Black ASAP with any conflicts.

(Note - students in Concert Band will have their regularly scheduled sectionals with Mr. Jenson the week of August 28-September 1)

Action items from the meeting:

1. Read through the Band Handbook.

2. Fill out the 2023-2024 Pearson Band Information Form. If you have multiple kids in the Pearson Band, you will need to fill out a separate form for each student. The form was due on Friday August 18. 3. Pay the band fee on Cheddar Up. If you have multiple kids in the Pearson Band, you will need to make a separate transaction for each student. Payment is due September 15. 4. If your student is using a school-owned instrument (oboe, bass clarinet, tenor saxophone, bari saxophone, bassoon, french horn, euphonium, or tuba), you will need to pay their instrument rental fee ($100) on Online School Fees.

Private Lessons

We highly recommend all students in Symphonic and Concert Band sign up for private lessons, even if you were not enrolled last year. Private lessons are a great way to progress on your instrument with the assistance of a master teacher who plays that same instrument. While tutoring in a core class might only be to catch up or erase deficits in the learning process, private lessons are for everyone. Typically, the top musicians in the band program are ones that are in private lessons!

This is the time to sign up. Our teachers are in high demand and teach across several different campuses and districts. Lesson times are first come first serve, so sign up ASAP. You can sign up by reaching out to the lesson teachers directly via email, which can be found at our website HERE. You can also email Mr. Jenson at jensonm@friscoisd.org.

If you were enrolled in lessons last year, make sure you reach out to your lesson teacher to get on their schedule for this year.
