Band Buddies

In the Pearson Band, we have an optional peer mentor system called Band Buddies. In Band Buddies, beginner band members are paired with students in Concert and Symphonic Band. These older students provide a support system to help the beginners as they go through the challenges of learning a new instrument for the first time. The goal is for students to meet with their Band Buddies at various times throughout the year and practice together. As members of Concert and Symphonic Band, these students have the chance to help show the new members of the band how we do things!

I have asked all of the students to fill out the Band Buddies Interest form by Monday, August 26th. Students are not required to have a Band Buddy, but everyone needs to fill out the form to let me know if they are interested so that nobody gets left out. Students must be signed into their Frisco ISD Google Account in order to complete the form.

For students that choose to participate in Band Buddies, we will have a Band Buddy Meet and Greet after school on Thursday, August 29th in the Pearson Cafeteria from 4:00 PM-4:45 PM. This will be when the band buddies get to meet each other, enjoy some ice cream/popsicles together, and plan when they are going to meet in the future.

Private Lessons

We highly recommend all students in Symphonic and Concert Band sign up for private lessons, even if you were not enrolled last year. Private lessons are a great way to progress on your instrument with the assistance of a master teacher who plays that same instrument. While tutoring in a core class might only be to catch up or erase deficits in the learning process, private lessons are for everyone. Typically, the top musicians in the band program are ones that are in private lessons!

This is the time to sign up. Our teachers are in high demand and teach across several different campuses and districts. Lesson times are first come first serve, so sign up ASAP. You can sign up by reaching out to the lesson teachers directly via email, which can be found at our website HERE. You can also email Mr. Jenson at jensonm@friscoisd.org.

If you were enrolled in lessons last year, make sure you reach out to your lesson teacher to get on their schedule for this year.
